About Michael Davis
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page. I sincerely appreciate your interest in learning more about who I am and the leadership I will bring if elected as the next Sheriff of Churchill County.
I came to Nevada at a young age when my family moved to Gardnerville in search of a better life. My father worked in construction, building homes throughout Douglas County, and my mother was an entrepreneur in the restaurant industry. From them, I learned early on that hard work, honesty, and following through on your word are not optional - they are the foundation of who you are.
After graduating from Douglas High School in 1995, I moved to Redding, California, where I attended Shasta College to study Fire Science and continue playing football. It was there that I met my wife, Shannon, and we’ve now built 28 years of life together. In 1997, I returned home to Gardnerville and began working in construction, starting as a laborer and working my way up to managing large residential projects. Eventually, I started my own business, where I was responsible for budgets, timelines, and leading teams of up to 30 employees. Those years taught me accountability, problem-solving, and how to lead people through both challenges and success.
In 2009, as the economy declined and the construction industry slowed, I made the difficult decision to change careers to provide stability for my family. With three young children at home, I joined the Nevada Department of Corrections and earned my Nevada P.O.S.T. certification while serving at Lovelock Correctional Center.
That same year, we made Fallon our home. It didn’t take long for our family to become deeply connected to the community. I spent years coaching youth sports - soccer, baseball, basketball, and football - and serving in leadership roles that allowed me to mentor both young athletes and new coaches. Those experiences strengthened my belief that strong communities are built through involvement, accountability, and leading by example.
In 2013, I joined the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, beginning in the Detention Division as a Field Training Officer and Gang Unit Liaison. In 2016, I graduated from the Nevada P.O.S.T. Academy and transitioned to the Patrol Division, where I focused on proactive policing, including narcotics enforcement and DUI investigations.
In 2019, I was honored to be selected as Deputy of the Year by my peers and supervisors - an award that means a great deal to me because it reflects the trust and respect of those I work alongside every day.
Leadership has always been important to me, which is why I served as Vice President and later President of the Churchill County Sheriff’s Deputies Association. In those roles, I was entrusted to represent my fellow deputies, manage budgets responsibly, and help guide important decisions during contract negotiations. In 2025, after the tragic loss of Deputy Tristan Redmond, I stepped in to cover the Secretary role as I was President, continuing to support the association during a difficult time. I recently resigned as President of the Association to run for Sheriff of Churchill County.
Since 2020, I have served as an Active Shooter Response Instructor, focusing on a critical but often difficult area of law enforcement that continues to impact communities nationwide. Over the past six years, I have trained local, state, NAS Fallon and out-of-area officers in modern, evidence-based response techniques designed to mitigate these high-risk situations effectively.
In addition to working with law enforcement, I have conducted civilian training sessions tailored for workplace environments, helping organizations better prepare their staff for emergency scenarios. Locally, I have also been in discussions with the Churchill County School District to provide training for educators, with the goal of improving preparedness and enhancing the safety of students and staff in the event of an incident here in our hometown.
In 2021, I was selected to serve on the North Central Narcotics Task Force, where I worked to combat the growing impact of illegal drugs in our community. In 2022, our team was recognized as the highest-producing narcotics unit in the State of Nevada. I also led efforts within the Gang Unit to improve training and strengthen our response to gang-related activity.
In 2022, I was promoted to Patrol Sergeant. In this role, I focused on leading from the front, supporting my team, maintaining morale, and ensuring accountability while facing ongoing staffing challenges. I believe leadership is not about position, but about earning trust, making sound decisions, and standing alongside your people when it matters most.
I have earned my Nevada P.O.S.T. Intermediate, Advanced, and Supervisory certifications and continue to pursue training that strengthens my ability to lead effectively and serve this community with integrity.
Churchill County is more than where I work, it’s home. I am committed to protecting this community, supporting the men and women who serve it, and building trust through transparency, consistency, and strong leadership.
